Welcome

This website aims to provide user-friendly information about assistive technology for people with dementia.

Assistive technology at work

We hope this site will inform both professionals and the wider public about the kinds of devices that can help support people with dementia and their carers, and will point people in the right direction for further information and advice. The site includes a product database of assistive technology devices, and information on many of the issues that relate to obtaining and using assistive technology with people with dementia.

Principles

We would like to stress the following when considering the use of any assistive technology device:

  • it should be used to enable and support people with dementia to live more independently
  • it should be considered following a person centred, holistic assessment of the needs and wishes of the individual concerned
  • it should be considered alongside ethical issues such as informed consent and the principles of doing one's best for the person, avoiding harm and respecting rights and preferences
  • it should be considered alongside the use of other services, not as a replacement for human contact and care
  • it may not be the answer for everyone.
