Trent Dementia Care Training

Training is an important part of the National Dementia Strategy. Trent Dementia Care Training aims to support services to provide quality care for people with dementia.

Trent Dementia Care Training focuses on outcomes and operates a person-centred care approach to the following groups:

For Carers: Awareness of assistive technology for people with dementia, its benefits and limitations, ethical issues surrounding the use of assistive technology.

For Care Homes:
In-house training in holistic person-centred care, communication skills, meaningful activities and occupation in care home settings, the physical environment and understanding behaviour and actions.

For Social Services and Housing:
Training in dementia awareness for social workers, housing officers, commissioning teams and provider staff. Understanding the holistic needs of people with dementia, assessing needs, communication skills, and carers’ needs. Ethical use of Assistive Technology.

For Primary Care:
Training for multi-disciplinary personnel around recognising and responding to dementia, normal ageing, other causes of confusion, viewing needs holistically, communication skills, support for carers.

For Acute General Hospital NHS Staff:
Recognising dementia and delirium, making sense of and responding appropriately to behaviours we find challenging in hospital settings, nutritional needs of people with dementia in hospital, pain control, communication.

We offer both bespoke courses to meet your needs as well as the following person-centred courses:

  • Making a Difference in Dementia Care
  • Assistive Technology for People with Dementia
